The Don’t Croak curriculum consists of a total of five lessons. The objective of each lesson is listed below:

Lesson 1:
In this lesson, participants learn about the harmful effects of secondhand smoke on children.

Objectives:

  • Become aware of the harmful effects of secondhand smoke on children
  • Set a goal to protect their family from secondhand smoke.
  • Lesson 2:
    In this lesson, participants learn about the health risks of secondhand smoke.

    Objectives:

  • Become aware of the dangers of tobacco and secondhand smoke.
  • Investigate the barriers and supports for keeping your surroundings free from tobacco smoke.
  • Lesson 3:
    In this lesson, participants learn techniques for keeping the air free from tobacco smoke.

    Objectives:

  • Learn techniques for keeping the air free from cigarette smoke.
  • Assess individual ability to keep the air free from cigarette smoke.
  • Track the progress of a “smoke-free” goal.
  • Lesson 4:
    In this lesson, participants learn assertiveness skills for keeping the air free from cigarette smoke.

    Objectives:

  • Practice the use of “I” messages within the context of a person’s right to “smoke-free” air.
  • Assess parents’ satisfaction with the program (evaluation).
